PURPOSE:To easily and economically produce the title refractive index distribution-type optical element by dipping base material glass in a molten salt to exchange cations, and further absorbing the cation eluted into the molten salt in ion absorbing glass. CONSTITUTION:The base material glass rod 1 is dipped in the molten salt 4 in a vessel 3 through a hanger 2. Consequently, the cation in the base material glass 1 is exchanged with the cation in the molten salt 4. A vessel 5 contg. the ion absorbing glass 6 in the form of rods, small blocks, powder, etc., is dipped in the molten salt 4. As a result, the cation eluted into the molten salt 4 from the base material glass 1 is absorbed in the ion absorbing glass 6 by ion exchange. Thereafter, the ion in the base material glass rod 1 is again exchanged. By this method, a refractive index distribution-type optical element is efficiently obtained. |
