The invention specifies a process for the production of a sheet-like structure, such as crochet braid, from a knitted fabric, with a specific pattern repeat of a lace worked in to-and-fro rows and having a terminating fancy thread, laid in curves and forming segments, and warp threads extending longitudinally parallel to one another and connecting the stitches and segments laterally, in which process, for the curved formation of the terminating fancy thread, an additional floating weft thread is drawn in at the draw-in points of the segments transversely relative to the longitudinal direction of the warp threads and binds the terminating fancy thread by single or multiple interlacing to one or more warp threads, at least one warp thread of which constitutes the counter-tension.
