<p>A tool attaching and detaching mechanism for machine tools is adapted to start tool attaching and detaching operations at a tool gripping end (22) of a main tool shaft (10) by means of a pressing end (42) at one end portion of a lever (40), which is connected pivotably to a main shaft head (12) moving along a machine base (14), in accordance with the engagement and disengagement of a cam (14a), which is provided on the machine base (14), with and from a cam follower (44), which is formed at the other end of the lever (40). A compressed air passage (50), which runs from the tip of the main tool shaft (10) to the tool gripping end (22) thereof, is provided in the central portion of the main tool shaft (10), and a compressed air feeder (54, 56) at the pressing end (42) of the lever (40). While a tool is not attached to the tool gripping end (22), the compressed air is supplied in accordance with the engagement of the pressing end (42) of the lever (40) with the top end of the main tool shaft (10) to wipe and clean the tool gripping end (22) with this air.</p> |
