Overload monitoring device for chains

An oval element is provided as a monitoring device in a sling chain, the element accepting the forces occurring when the chain is loaded and deforming plastically in the case of overloading. This plastic deformation is indicated by two webs facing each other at a distance, in that the mutual separation of the webs reduces in the case of overloading. The separation distance must be monitored and re-measured continuously. The novel overload monitoring device is to indicate when the permissible loading capacity of the chain has been exceeded without monitoring and re-measuring. When the permissible loading of the chain is exceeded, a signal transmitter 10 which emits an optical and/or acoustic signal is activated. An unnoticed exceeding of the permissible loading is thereby reliably avoided and the troublesome reading and monitoring of the indicator part is eliminated. By means of the overload monitoring device, the exceeding of the permissible loading of the chain is automatically indicated, a considerable expenditure of work and time as well as continuous monitoring being eliminated.
