The wire magazine (10) comprises a housing (6) with horizontal axis and an end-face take-off opening (11) for the wire (12) and a sliding carriage (30) which can be inserted in a horizontal direction into the housing (6). The wire coil (1) can be mounted outside the housing (6) with a horizontal axis on the sliding carriage (30) and can be inserted on the latter into the housing (6). The guide rails (17) for the sliding carriage (30) can be folded upwards in front of the insertion-side end face of the housing. <IMAGE>
