It is known to prestress tie rods and to maintain their prestress by means of tightening nuts. On account of its dimensions, the tightening nut protrudes from the cross-sectional profile of the shearer loader so that it is often necessary to bend the ends of the tie rods towards the machine body. According to the invention, a wedge is to form the element (12) maintaining the prestress of the tie rod (8). The element (12) can be attached transversely to the longitudinal direction of the tie rod. It has at least one surface (12a) running at an angle to the longitudinal direction of the tie rod (8) and bearing against at least one correspondingly running angular surface (11a) of the tie rod (8) or the construction unit and is supported with the two wedge ends on both sides of the tie rod (8) on surfaces of the construction unit of the machine body. As a result of their low overall height, wedges can be accommodated without any great difficulty at the end of the prestressed tie rod (8) in relatively flat widened portions (15, 17) of the machine body. Bending of the tie-rod ends is therefore only necessary in extreme cases. <IMAGE>
