PURPOSE:To realize uniform orientation of liquid crystals ranging over a wide area in a direction parallel to a substrate without disturbing a layer structure of a ferroelectric liquid crystal by forming each orientation film comprising polyacrylonitrile on each transparent electrode, wherein at least one of the orientation film is constituted of a multilayered polyacrylonitrile orientation film. CONSTITUTION:Thin PAN (polyacrylonitrile) orientation films 4, 14 are formed by using PAN as liquid crystal orientation films 4, 14, coating transparent electrodes 3 of two substrates 2 constituting a panel, and calcining the coated product. Further, additional PAN orientation film(s) is(are) formed by coating at least one of the orientation film with PAN again or several times, and calcining the coated product again. Thus, a multilayered PAN orientation film is formed. By this constitution, liquid crystal molecules are oriented uniformly over a wide area in a direction parallel to the substrate without disturbing the layer structure of a ferroelectric liquid crystals. |
