NEW MATERIAL:A lysozyme inhibitor, having about 54,000 molecular weight measured by a gel filtration method and the following physico-chemical properties. Property; white crystalline powder. Color reaction; positive to phenol.sulfuric acid method, Elson-Morgan and histidine reactions. Isoelectric point; pH about 5.04; pH stability; without inactivation pH3-9 by treatment at 37 deg.C for 30min. Thermal stability; stable up to 80 deg.C by treatment at pH7 for 10min. Lysozyme inhibition specificity; inhibiting only animal-derived lysozymes without inhibiting plant- and microorganism-derived lysozymes. USE:Utilized for elucidating physiological phenomena occurring in cell walls, physiological role of the lysozyme in animal bodies, etc. PREPARATION:A strain of Bacillus.subtilis OFC453 (FERM P-9434) is cultivated in a nutrient culture medium to isolate and purify the aimed inhibitor from the resultant cultivation filtrate. |
