To control a motor-driven cone-type crusher 40 variables such as the power drawn by the crusher motor, the pressure exerted on the crusher head and the level of material in the crusher bowl are monitored, and a dominant variable to be controlled is selected either manually or automatically at 42 for comparison at 44 with a set point 68. The set point of the controlled variable which may be selected manually or by optimisation is altered according to the behaviour of the other variables. If one of the other variable exceeds a HI limit then the set point is lowered at a predetermined rate, and if it exceeds a HI HI limit then the set point is lowered further. <IMAGE> |
