In an arrangement for producing a colour motion-picture film, sets of electrical signals individually representative of three component colours in an original are derived by a scanning process and from each of these sets of signals four further sets of signals individually representative of the grey content (brightness) and of the colour residues are derived (e.g. in the manner described in Specification 737,212 and U.S.A. Specification 2,316,581), the grey content signals being recorded on a black/white sensitive layer and the colour residues on colour sensitive layers. This arrangement avoids distortions inherent in conventional subtractive colour recordings (due to overlap of the spectral absorption curves of the subtractive dyes) by representing the brightness variations of the colours by a neutral-tone (grey-content) and the colour (of each image element) by the superimposition of two substractive dyes, the amounts of the latter being independent of the brightness of the colour. |
