PURPOSE:To increase the eliminating effect or the like of machining chips and improve the machining efficiency by sticking and fixing an electrostrictive material or a magnetostrictive material activated by high-frequency power sources or multi-phase power sources with the phase difference and providing a vibrator generating traveling waves of the ultrasonic vibration. CONSTITUTION:An elastic grindstone combined with synthetic rubber, natural rubber, and abrasive grains is used as a polishing tool 4, which is pressed to an object to be polished for the vibration polishing. Polarized electrodes in which an electrostrictive material 2 fixed to the outer periphery of a vibrator 1 is expanded or shrunk in arrow directions are provided, a high-frequency power source E1 is applied to the electrodes (a)-(d), a high-frequency power source E2 with the phase difference of 90 deg. is applied to the electrodes (e)-(h), then the ultrasonic wave vibration traveling in the circumferential direction is generated on the vibrator 1. This vibration is propagated through a horn 3, a tip tool 4 is vibrated, the vibration of the tool 4 is the traveling wave vibration propagated in the rotating direction, this traveling wave is propagated in resonance with the elastic tool 4, thus the grinding can be performed with the eliminating effect of grinding chips or the like increased and the machining effect and machining speed can be improved. |
