PURPOSE:To provide an inexpensive compsn. for respective covering layers of a core which provides a good slip between the covering layers and avoids the exertion of force on the bare optical fiber during secondary covering by providing a lubricating layer between the covering layers. CONSTITUTION:A primary covering layer 2 and a lubricant layer 13 having 0.01-10mum thickness consisting of resin compsns. and a secondary covering layer 14 consisting of a thermoplastic resin compsn. are provided successively on the outside of a bare optical fiber 11 thereby forming an optical fiber core 15. A buffer layer 16 consisting of a resin compsn. may be provided between the layer 13 and the layer 14. The compsn. forming the layer 12 and the layer 16 is a thermoplastic resin particularly of acrylic and more specifically an urethane resin or the like. The thermoplastic resin for the secondary covering layer is not particularly limited. The lubricating agent is most of the compds. which are generally designated as a lubricating agent (oil), lubricant, etc.; the compds. that swell or dissolve the primary, secondary and buffer layers are not used as the lubricating agent. |
