PURPOSE:To efficiently compose a text, by displaying on a display device a character code string previously registered for character codes corresponding to character codes stored in an external storage device, and performing replacement and insertion of the character codes. CONSTITUTION:When a typist inputs directive codes indicative of selected character codes through a keyboard device 40 and the presence of the selected character codes is confirmed, a character string indicting the start is displayed on a display device 41. Next, the first data is taken out from the top of the relevant character codes stored in an external storage device 45, by a reading means 48. When it is judged by a controller 42 that the data is a control code indicative of the start of replaceable character codes 62, the reading means 48 reads serially the replaceable character codes to a control code indicative of the end of the replaceable character codes, and the replaceable character codes 62 are displayed on the display device 41 as character codes for prompting the typist to input. The character codes obtained after replacement are appropriately edited by a character code synthesizing and editing means, and the edited data is transferred to a printer 43 to be printed. |
