PURPOSE:To provide necessary information to an operator without making a map hard to see, by displaying character information such as name of place corresponding to the present position of a vehicle at a position other than a map screen. CONSTITUTION:When the entry of a vehicle into a route decision area JE is detected as indicated by (i), the display of name of place character in a display area (c) is started from the moment while the present position of the vehicle is displayed by a circle mark indicated by (ii) as given by the actual locus based on orbit coordinates for correction in stead of on a route of a map. Then, when the departure of the vehicle from the route decision area JE is detected as indicated by (iii), the display of name of place disappears from the moment while the present position of the vehicle is displayed to be carried on the route of a map. Thus, the display of ongoing direction of the vehicle in a display area (b) and the display of the number of branches in a display area (c) can be changed depending on an angle calculated. |
