PURPOSE: To improve the electrostatic charge characteristic of a negative type electrostatic liq. developer by using a non-polar liq. having a prescribed kauri- butanol value, thermoplastic resin particles having a prescribed small average particle size, an ionic or twin-ionic compd. soluble in the non-polar liq. and quat. ammonium hydroxide represented by a prescribed formula. CONSTITUTION: This developer consists of a non-polar liq. having a kauri-butanol value of <=30 and accounting for most of the developer, thermoplastic resin particles having <=10μm average particle size, an ionic or twin-ionic compd. soluble in the non-polar liq. and quat. ammonium hydroxide represented by the formula (where each of R1 -R4 is aliphatic or arom. hydrocarbon). At least 0.5ppm of the ionic compd. is soluble in the non-polar liq.
