PURPOSE: To detect the abnormality of refrigerating capacity of a refrigerating machine and permit the reasonable maintenance of a device by a method wherein a reference value, obtained by adding a deciding value of a temperature difference given previously to a reference refrigerating temperature, is compared with a refrigerating temperature measured value, measured by a refrigerating temperature detector, by a deciding means and an abnormality detecting signal is outputted when the measured value has exceeded the reference value. CONSTITUTION: A refrigerating temperature detector 21 is attached to the cooling unit 9 of a refrigerating machine 1 or a matter to be cooled so as to be contacted closely thereto to measure a refrigerating temperature. An ambient temperature detector 22 measures the main body temperature of the refrigerating machine 1. A function generator 23 is connected to the ambient temperature detector 22 to output the value of a reference refrigerating temperature Tc0 employing the value of a measured ambient temperature Ta . The reference refrigerating temperature Tc0 and a refrigerating temperature Tc , outputted by the refrigerating temperature detector 21, are given to a deciding means 24 while the differential amplifier 25 of the deciding means 24 outputs a difference between the refrigerating temperature Tc and the reference refrigerating temperature Tc0 orΔT=Tc -Tc0 . The differential amplifier 26 outputs a differenceΔT-ΔT0 between theΔT and a previously differently given deciding valueΔTo. The deciding circuit 27 outputs an abnormality signal 28 whenΔT-ΔT0 >=0 orΔT>=ΔT0 in a comparing circuit.
