PURPOSE:To improve the retrieving property and the compression efficiency by displaying the outline of a three-dimensional image by decoding and reproducing only a part of information after an encoding processing, and also, compressing efficiently a three-dimensional image signal. CONSTITUTION:A three-dimensional image signal is constituted of superposing and placing plural plane images in which an image signal is placed two- dimensionally in I and J directions, in the K direction being vertical to the plane, and the image signal of each plane image which is inputted from a three- dimensional image measuring instrument is brought to sampling at every (m) picture elements in the I direction, and at every (n) picture elements in the J direction. Subsequently, the first sampling signal of the inputted plane image is transmitted or stored without referring to other picture signal. Also, the l-th (l=2-mXn) sampling signal of the K-th plane image refers to a first sampling signal of the (k)-1th and the (k)+1th plane images and executes encoding based on a prediction processing. In such a way, the image can be retrieved at a high speed, and also, high compressibility can be obtained. |
