PURPOSE:To control accurately the diameter of a glass fiber when the fiber is manufactured from molten glass by pulling-up, by installing a water cooler around the fiber, and keeping the distance between the tip of the cooler and the surface of the molten glass uniform. CONSTITUTION:When a glass fiber 2a is continuously manufactured from molten glass 2 in a container 6 placed in a heater 1 by pulling up with rotating rolls 3, a heat insulating tube 4 extending to the outside of the heater 1 is placed over the container 6 to keep the inside of the heater 1 at a constant temp. independently of a change in the temp. of the open air, so the viscosity of the glass 2 can be set arbitrarily. A water cooler 5 is installed around the fiber 2a at the inside of the tube 4, and the distance between the tip 5b of the cooler 5 and the surface of the glass 2 is kept uniform to make the diameter of the manufactured fiber 2a uniform. |
