For rapid digestion, organic waste products, such as animal faeces, vegetable wastes and the like, are introduced into closed inclined shafts, loosened here and furnished with circulating process air having a constantly increased oxygen content. To achieve a uniform digestion with low expenditure in terms of devices, the material 1 to be rotted passes into the space 2 and then through the agitated mixing bend 3, after elevation, as required, of scrapers 4, into the shafts 5, 6, 7, in order to be discharged downstream of the last shaft 7 by appropriate devices, e.g. a screw 8. <IMAGE>
