The invention relates to a module frame system for filter cartridge units matched to a standard filter frame dimension. The module frames can be assembled to form filter housing frames of any size. The filter cartridges are arranged diagonally offset from the module frame. As a result, when the filter cartridges are cleaned, the dust is transported in the manner of a cascade in the direction of the dust collection hopper. A further advantage of the invention is that, owing to the module frame system, existing filter plants can be retrofitted by a self-cleanable filter system without problem. Moreover, the cartridge filter units according to the invention can be equipped with standard filter systems, prefilters and secondary filters. Complex conversion and construction work is dispensed with.
