In the case of a burner-heated sectional boiler, a rod burner (3) is arranged in the central region of the combustion chamber (2) enclosed all round by water-conducting boiler sections (1), and these boiler sections (1) bear, on their inner side facing the combustion chamber (2), ribs (4) projecting inwards towards said central region. To increase the efficiency, these ribs (4) separate the burner plate (7) of a burner rod (3) designed as a radiant burner into arch sections. To this end, the rod burner (3) can bear radially projecting ribs (5) which bound burner chambers in pairs and bear burner plates (7) (Fig. 1), or the rod burner (3) can be designed as a radiant burner with a wall (11) which encloses a hollow space (8) conducting a fuel-air mixture, is penetrated by mixture outlet openings and forms the burner plate (7) (Fig. 2). <IMAGE>
