The wire magazine (10) comprises a housing (6) with a vertical axis and an end-face take-off opening (11) for the wire (12). The wire coil (1) can be deposited horizontally from above onto a base (20) in the housing (6). The base (20) rests on stops (23) connected to pressure segments (30). The pressure segments (30) are movable on a parallelogram guide formed by adjustment rods (18) and, when the base moves downwards under the weight of the wire coil (1), are adjusted radially from the outside against the outer circumference of the wire coil (1) so as to fix the latter. <IMAGE>
