The invention describes a method and a device for detecting odour-producing atmospheric constituents which are produced, preferably, in biological or chemical reaction processes, such as coking, gasification, composting and fermentation processes. In particular, the invention utilises the fact that limit values found olfactometrically correspond to the output levels of suitable gas sensors, thereby providing the possibility of using the limit values found by olfactometric methods to calibrate the system according to the invention.
