It is intended that a trunk piston for internal combustion engines run quietly with the lowest possible weight and moreover have a high design strength. For this purpose, the bosses for receiving the piston pin are formed directly on to the piston head. In the direction of the pin, the bosses extend diametrically for up to 0.65 of the piston diameter. In addition, the piston is characterised by the following features: a) in the pressure-counterpressure direction of the piston, the bosses (1) are each respectively connected to one another by way of an annular rib segment (2) extending in a circumferential direction, b) each of the two annular rib segments (2) extends in the piston's longitudinal direction from the piston head, to which it is respectively connected, approximately to that end of the bosses (1), into which bosses they run, remote from the piston head, c) the two annular rib segments (2) extend radially outwards, though no further than the circumferential surface of a hollow cylinder with a diameter of 0.75.D placed around the piston longitudinal axis, d) in the pressure-counterpressure direction a web (3) extending over the entire height of the annular rib segment (2) is radially formed on to each of the two annular rib segments, on to which web a curved skirt element (4) is in turn formed. <IMAGE>
