PURPOSE:To prevent the infiltration of cracks and improve the mechanical strength by diffusing metal ions along the grain boundary of a superconductive ceramic base material. CONSTITUTION:A perovskite oxide superconductor such as YBa2Ca3O7-delta or (La1-xBax)2CuO4-delta containing rare earth elements is very fragile. This sintered superconductive ceramic base material 3 is immersed in the molten salt 2 containing the necessary metal ions and processed for the preset time at the preset temperature, thereby the desired metal ions are diffused on the grain boundary of the ceramic base material 3. The diffused metal ions are ions of Hg, Cu, Rg or the like. The mechanical strength of the superconductive ceramic can be improved by a very simple method according to this constitution.
