The invention provides an uncomplicated and easy-to-handle device which is characterised in that a side part is fastened rotatably to an articulation point situated on the side of the seat and to an articulation point of the head part, and a U-shaped adjusting bar is fastened rotatably to the head part and engages in latching projections arranged on the side of the backrest and a tension spring in a slot is connected to the backrest and to the centre part of the adjusting bar. The adjusting bar is secured against swinging by bars on the backrest. The adjusting bar is used to brace the articulation point between the head part/side part and the backrest, achieving a secure position of the backrest using simple technical means (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
