The invention concerns hydrodynamic reversing gearing, in particular a ship's reversing gear, that has two fluid clutches, of which one, assigned to going ahead, is fastened directly to the drive shaft and drives a driven pinion. A second clutch is connected to the drive shaft by way of a reversing gearbox, and also drives the driven pinion, for going astern. Both clutches are controlled by filling and emptying; to reduce their dimensions and the wall friction losses, they are fitted with slanted blades. At least the fluid clutch assigned to going astern also has movable flow barriers, in order to reduce the windage while going ahead. By means of a control device, it is possible to operate the propeller at even lower r.p.m. than the idling speed of the prime mover.
