PURPOSE:To control the variance in strength and to produce the title SiC having a high-temp. oxidation characteristic and high strength at high temp. by adding specified amts. of B and C to the beta-SiC as the essential component to specify the content of the beta phase in the sintered body to be obtained. CONSTITUTION:From 0.1 to 3wt.% B and 1.0-3.0wt.% C are added to the beta-SiC as the essential raw material, and mixed. The mixture is granulated, molded, degreased, and sintered. The content of the beta phase in the sintered body is controlled to 85-100% or to 0-15%. By this method, an SiC ceramic body having high flexual strength, with reduced variance in strength, and having an excellent high-temp. oxidation characteristic can be obtained. |
