This prosthesis is of the type comprising a glenoid element (9) consisting of a spherical male part and intended to be fixed to the glenoid cavity (4) of the scapula, and a humeral element (15) consisting of a spherical cup (16) of the same radius as the spherical male part constituting the glenoid element and integral, via its outer face, with a rod (17) intended to be engaged and fixed in the humeral diaphysis, after resection of the upper end of the humerus (3). The spherical male part constituting the glenoid element (9) is recessed and has an opening (9a) extending over about two thirds of a sphere and intended to be engaged and fixed to the glenoid cavity (4), while the spherical cup (16) of the humeral element (15) extends over about one third of a sphere. <IMAGE>
