An optical smoke detector having a detector mounting (5) on which a detector case (6) is arranged mechanically by means of at least three carrying arms (1) and electrically by means of a plurality of contact springs (19), and having a case cap (4) and a labyrinth cap (17), a printed circuit board (3) being arranged in the detector case (6) and a lower and an upper photocarrier (2, 12) being arranged on the detector case (6) and a labyrinth (16) being arranged over the photocarriers (2, 12), is constructed as follows: the outer wall of the detector case (6) is formed outwards in the region of the carrying arms over the contact springs (19) and is raised perpendicularly upwards as a whole. The carrying arms (1) are constructed to be freestanding with a U profile. The floor of the detector case (6) has at least one outwardly open recess (14) for a balancing resistor (15). The case cap (4) and the labyrinth cap (17) are constructed as an integral detector cap, the detector cap having three formed-on blocking tabs (7) pointing towards the detector mount (5) and three formed-on bead-like locking projections (20) in the region of the lower photocarrier (2).
