Process for cracking a hydrocarbon feedstock in a fluid bed, performed in an appreciably tubular and vertical elongate reaction zone 1, into which zone the catalyst is introduced at the lower base of the elongate zone, via a conduit 2, and the feedstock is introduced via at least one conduit 3 emerging into the reaction zone at a height above that of the catalyst entry. The invention is characterised in that a proportion of the petrol or a proportion of the light oil obtained by cracking is recycled (via at least one conduit 3A) to an intermediate point between the catalyst and feedstock entry points. <IMAGE>
