PURPOSE:To obtain a Josephson element which has stability, high speed and high density by using superconducting crystal anisotropy in an oxide superconductor. CONSTITUTION:Y-Ba-CuO superconductors are used for oxide superconductors 1, 8, and SrTiO3 or BaTiO3 is used for a substrate 5. An oxide superconductor thin film is preferably single crystal, but a surface ab may be oriented in parallel with the substrate. Electrodes 6, 7 are connected by weak coupling in which a current flows to the surface ab having strong superconductivity, and electrodes 6 and 9, 7 and 9 are connected by weak coupling in which a current flows in a direction of an axis (c) having weak superconductivity. When a whole element is cooled to liquid nitrogen temperature to form a superconducting state, the electrodes are turned ON therebetween. Then, when a current flows to wirings 4, switching states between the electrodes form three ways of ON-ON, ON-OFF, OFF-OFF. Thus, weak coupling can be simply formed, and three or more switching states are formed by one element. Accordingly, high density and high speed can be provided. |
