PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound useful as a raw material for optically active substances, by bringing a 4-oxopimelic acid diester into contact with a culture mixture of a specific bacterium, a cell thereof or pig liver esterase. CONSTITUTION:A bacterium belong to the genus Achromobacter, chromobacterium, Flavobacterium, Pseudomonas, Bacillus or Corynebacterium is cultivated in a medium containing meat essence, glucose and casein hydrolyzate at 25-40 deg.C for 2-72hr. The prepared culture mixture is adjusted to pH 5-9, or the cell is separated, suspended in a buffer solution at pH 5-9 and reacted with a compound shown by formula I (R is 1-4C alkyl except t-butyl; t-Bu is t-butyl) at 25-35 deg.C for 2-72hr. The cell is removed from the reaction mixture and the aimed compound shown by formula II is obtained from a supernatant liquid. |
