In order to increase the efficiency of tanning units and to enhance the well-being of the subject resting on the horizontal platform, any desired medium, advantageously a liquid medium, is additionally sprayed on to the human body. If required, the medium can be warmed to the desired temperature and admixed with scents and/or active substances. For this purpose, the sun canopy comprises a supply line provided with outflow nozzles, and the horizontal platform is provided with perforations for drainage of the medium. The supply line is expediently arranged centrally in the longitudinal direction between the irradiation lamps.
