The balloon catheter of this invention includes a main lumen, a side lumen and a balloon, and a balloon fixing portion of a catheter body and nearby portions are small-diameter portions so as to have substantially the same outer diameter as the outer diameter of the remaining portions of the catheter body when the balloon is fixed. A soft resin is packed between both ends of the balloon and both ends of the small-diameter portion of the catheter body. Accordingly, a catheter tube containing the balloon has substantially the same outer diameter as a whole and can reduce any pain that might occur at the balloon insertion portion of a patient. The present invention relates also to a method of producing a balloon catheter including the steps of forming a catheter tube having a main lumen and a side lumen, forming a small-diameter portion as the fixing portion of a balloon and fixing the balloon to the small-diameter portion and packing a soft resin in a molten state between both ends of the balloon and both ends of the small-diameter portion of the catheter tube. |
