In printing mechanisms having daisywheels in typewriters or similar office machines, easy removal and fitting of said daisywheels from and onto the drive spindles must be guaranteed. For this purpose, in conventional typewriters, the daisywheel, the drive spindle and the drive motor are mounted in a carrier which is arranged so as to be pivotable from an operating position into an exchange position remote from the roller platen. Since, for this exchange operation, the ink-ribbon cartridge must also be removed from the cartridge receiver, the exchange of the daisywheel (3) is quite complicated. This has now been simplified according to the invention, in that the return of the carrier (8) after exchange of the daisywheel (3) takes place automatically from the exchange position into the operating position when the ink-ribbon cartridge (24) is fitted onto the cartridge receiver (21). Since the carrier (8) no longer has to be returned to its operating position separately, a significant improvement in handling results. <IMAGE>
