A control valve arrangement for a pneumatic axial motor (1) has a main valve (33) which connects two pressure chambers (6, 7) of the motor alternately with a compressed-air supply or an air outlet. An auxiliary valve (35) is actuated at the end of each operating stroke by a piston rod (8), releasing the control air to control pressure chambers of the main valve. The auxiliary valve (35) has an auxiliary gate valve (44) which crosses control openings (47, 48, 49) in a section of the casing (34). This allows the force exerted by the piston rod to be kept largely constant, even at the reversing points. <IMAGE>
