In this method and arrangement, for improving the bandwidth/transmission time ratio with respect to a transmission, an N-position digital word is divided into ng part words in each case with the number of positions N/(ng) and the part words, before they are transmitted on a signal path, are converted into a number of pulses corresponding to the number ng of the part words with durations proportional to the contents of the part words and the position values coresponding to the position values of the part words. The invention is used especially in the data transmission of measurement data obtained in accordance with the time divider method. <IMAGE>
