A process for producing dry calcium-sulphate hydrates by dewatering flue-gas desulphurisation plant gypsum is described. The treatment of the gypsum products is carried out in a fluidised-bed dryer with hot fluidisation gas, the dry gypsum being removed from the gas stream in a downstream dust separator, such as a cyclone separator. The gypsum products are in this case introduced into the fluidised-bed dryer, above the distribution base for the fluidisation gas flowing in from below, into a sand fluidised bed or a layer of another granular material with high heat capacity, such as metal beads, mineral grains or the like, and are specifically distributed directly above the distributor base, homogeneously over the entire cross-section thereof. The heat uptake takes place from the sand fluidised bed and the fluidisation gas, with a defined bed height, with horizontal penetration with simultaneous formation of steam.
