In the case of an information element (1) having one or more character fields (4), on each of which there can be formed an information character which is composed of segments (5), all the segments (5) which can be used to form an information character are present in each character field (4) and are arranged separately from one another. The information element (1) is composed of a film (2) of flexible plastic which can be glued to a reception surface, or is fastened to a film support (3), the said film (2) being provided with film regions (6) which correspond to all the segments (5) assigned to the region of each character field (4), are prepunched along their edges and can be removed as desired to form an information character. <IMAGE>
