The invention relates to a compact rolling mill with rolling stands which are arranged alternately horizontally and vertically and are accommodated in a portal-shaped housing. The aim of the invention is to reduce the expense of manufacture and maintenance and to improve the utility of the mill. The object is to create a compact rolling mill with rolling stands that do not have housings and the chocks of which can be adjusted automatically and symmetrically to the rolling line. This is achieved, inter alia, by the fact that each rolling stand has an angular frame, one limb of which is provided with a supporting surface for the horizontal arrangement and the other limb of which is provided with a supporting surface for the vertical arrangement of the rolling stand on a bed plate.
