A disaster prevention system has a receiver (13) which monitors a number of terminal devices includinga relay for sensors (26), a relay for smoke prevention (20) and an analogue sensor (21). Information on the connected terminals is stored in ROM2 (3) of the receiver. At a time of initialisation of the system, the receiver (13) polls each terminal and compares the received information with that in ROM 2(3). If they agree, the information is stored in RAM 2 (5), which registers all connected terminals to be called for further monitoring. If they do not agree, the terminal is to be excluded for further monitoring and the fact is printed out on a printer (12). Thus unconnected terminals and erroneously connected terminals are automatically detected and eliminated from monitoring.
