A cap liner (24) for sealing an opening (14) between a bottle (10) and a cap (16) secured to the bottle. The cap liner (24) includes a substantially fluid impervious film (28) and a resilient, compressible foraminous reinforcing web (34) bonded to one side of the film. The cap liner (24) is mounted on the cap (16) so that the opposite side of the film (28) is adjacent to the bottle (10) when the cap (16) is secured to the bottle. The foraminous web (34) is comrpessed between the bottle (10) and the cap (16) so as to resiliently urge the film (28) into sealing contact with the bottle circumferentially about the opening (14).
