<p>A silicon carbide sintered body containing 0.01-2% Mg, 0.2-2% B and 0.1-2% free carbon and having a density of not less than 2.80 g/cm<3> is produced by adding 0.1-5% amounts of magnesium boride and 0.1-5% carbon to silicon carbide powder having an average grain size of not more than 5 mu m, shaping and firing at 1,900 - 2,300 DEG C under vacuum or in an inert gas atmosphere.</p> |
