PURPOSE:To switch and connect a single-core optical fiber and also switch and connect a multicore tape optical fiber by the same switching and connecting device in a short time by adjusting the positions and movement quantities of 1st-3rd gripping mechanisms and making the connections. CONSTITUTION:First and second ferrules 2A and 2B provided atop of 1st and 2nd single-core optical fibers 1A and 1B are inserted into a sleeve 3 from both sides and connected by an abutting leaf spring 4. Both ferrules 2A and 2B and the sleeve 3 are gripped and the sleeve 3 and 2nd ferrule 2B are moved axially to carry out extraction, carrying-out operation, and releasing operation. A 3rd single-core optical fiber is gripped and arranged on the axis of the sleeve 3, a ferrule is inserted into the sleeve 3, and the leaf spring 4 is fitted to the 1st and 3rd ferrules and connected. When multicore optical fibers are switched and connected, ferrule connectors 6A and 6B provided atop of the multicore optical fibers 5A and 5B are used and then switched and connected by the same method with the single-core optical fibers. Consequently, switching connections are accurately made in a short time by the same device. |
