NEW MATERIAL:Lectin TGA separated from a plant of Tulipa genus, having a molecular weight of 40,000 (measured by gel-filtration) and exhibiting agglutination activity to mouse erythrocyte but free from agglutination activity to sheep and human erythrocyte and microbial cell of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Candida tropicalis, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis. USE:A biochemical reagent useful for the investigation of the structure and distribution of sugars on the cell surface and for the specific purification, etc., of composite sugar. Useful also as an immunoenhancer. PREPARATION:The objective substance can be produced by grinding a plant body (preferably bulb) of a plant belonging to Tulipa genus (e.g. Tulipa gesneriana) optionally in the presence of an aqueous solvent, removing solid components from the ground product and subjected the obtained liquid to separation and purification treatments comprising a combination of e.g. fractionation with ammonium sulfate, column chromatography, etc. |
