A combination of electrical components is employed to reduce the nominal rated voltage fed to it to a main level (10) with a frequency of at least 25 kHz and pref. in the range of 40 kHz., and a voltage considerably beneath that nominal, and so low that continuous feed of current at that voltage level does not permit maintenance of discharge in the light tube. Further electrical components feed periodically a current with higher voltage (12) than the main voltage and in the range of 400 volts. This higher voltage is fed in short pulses and peaks, constituting only a fraction of the total voltage provision. - The reduction of light development obtained through the lower main voltage in relation to drive at nominal rated voltage is compensated by introduction of the requisite further number of light tubes, the number of which is so chosen that through the higher degree of effect in the drive arrangement the total effect and thus heat development is less than that obtained with corresp. light development when operating at nominal rated voltage. |
