PURPOSE:To increase a catalytic activity at a high temperature by carrying an oxide of rare earth metal, Rh, both or either of Pt and Pd on alumina particles, and furthermore, by carrying most of Rh dispersed upon that oxide of rare earth metal. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust gas cleaning ternary catalyst which has functions, the oxidations of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide and the reduction of nitrogen oxide, is produced by carrying an oxide of rare earth metal, Rh, and both or either of Pt and Pd on alumina particles, and furthermore, by carrying most of Rh dispersed upon that oxide of rare earth metal. A preferable carried amount of the oxide of rare earth metal is 0.01-3.0mol. per l of supporting material, that of Rh 0.004-1.0g Rh metal per l and those of Pt and Pd 0.04-1.0g per l, respectively. As for the aforementioned oxide of rare earth metal, cerium oxide is preferred. |
