The invention relates to a packaging and protection method consisting in producing a moulded protective cocoon around the article to be protected by depressurising a sealed bag containing a granular material having damping properties, disposed loose or in retention elements in the said bag, the latter either containing only the granular material and encasing the article to be protected, thus interposing its casing at every point on the article between the granular material and the article, or containing, inside its casing, the article together with the granular material disposed around the latter, thus converting, in a reversible manner, a fragile article into a compact non-fragile mass capable of damping impacts. The bag consists of a flexible air-impervious material with a suction valve and has either an opening permitting the insertion of the article and of the containing material, which opening is closed up by means of a detachable press system ensuring that a partial vacuum, necessary for compacting the granular materials placed inside, is maintained, or the bag is welded along all 4 sides when it is intended to encase the article to be protected. |
