发明名称 PRODUCTION OF SIC WHISKER REINFORCED CERAMIC
摘要 PURPOSE:To produce the titled ceramic having large fracture toughness, by forming and attaching a carbonaceous thin film to the surface of SiC whiskers, blending ceramic powder of carbide type with the whiskers and sintering in an inert atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A thermosetting polymer such as phenol-based thermosetting polymer is dissolved in an organic solvent (ethanol) to give <=about 0.5% diluted solution, into which SiC whiskers (about 0.1-1mu diameter and about 30-100mu) are dispersed in about 50-200g/l concentration. Then the dispersion is filtered, dried to remove the organic solvent, the thermosetting polymer is cured by heating and burnt in a nonoxidizing atmosphere at 800-1,200 deg.C to form and attach a carbonaceous thin film having 7-20Angstrom to the surface of the whiskers. The whiskers are blended with ceramic powder such as SiC, TiC, Si3N4 and Al2O3 and sintered by hot press in an inert atmosphere or in vacuum. Consequently, SiC whisker-reinforced ceramic having improved fracture toughness is obtained.
